14 Clean Himalaya

There is an Organization, which is working in the waste treatment. It is called www.cleanhimalaya.com.
I am working for them something like 3 hours a day. They try to introduce dust bins in Rishikesh. Here in India nobody is used to use dust bins. Everybody just throw his waste in the streets. The homes in India are very clean, but nobody care about what is happening outside.
So Clean Himalaya has two compromises with their customers ( hotels, shopkeepers, restaurants,...), first they collect their garbage and second they clean also the street in front of their locals.
Clean Himalaya is separating the garbage up to 16 fractions, some of them can be sold to a recycling plant, the others are dumped at an official dumping site.

So my work is to collect the garbage from the streets, mainly small pieces of chips-, chewingtabaco-, sweet packages and so on. It is really hard, because of the dust and the loud street in which you have to work. Some people come and welcome this work, but do not give much hope. "You know, we people from India will not change...!" I do not care, I am in a grass roots organization, so I just keep on, that is the idea of a grass root organization. After some days, I felt a difference, even the streets looked the same, the shopkeepers are now cleaning in front of their shops, so 2 meters more. I think they just feel sometimes a little bit ashamed of that. Some do not care at all. Environmental conciseness is different here, on the one side the religion sees the nature as body of god and on the other side the people just do not know or do not want to know. A certain ignorance is there.
In Europe, there is the same ignorance, maybe worse than here, because some have lost the connection to the nature and even are not able to see it as the house of god.
The recruitment of new volunteer is also an aim of me, but still just one requested on the papers I put.
These people from Clean Himalaya need help and I like to help them. The Sivananda Ashram is also involved and so this project will go on and I can contribute a small thing.
